May we "KINDLE" your interest?
The Sparta Public Library just might be the first library in the state to offer the new Amazon Kindles. We just received our first two units, and have been enjoying familiarizing ourselves with these unique, easy-on-the-eyes tools. We're surprised by how many patrons have placed requests to use this newest innovation in reading. When you borrow the Kindle, you'll select titles to add, making this truly a “patron-driven collection device.” We’re sure that this is going to be one very popular service--just another in a long list of services and products we proudly provide!

I read in the Kindle users guide,
"Find an item in the store, select "Buy", and you will receive your item wirelessly in under a minute. All of your Kindle purchases use Amazon 1-Click for easy purchasing and Amazon automatically backs up all of your purchases in Your Media Library in case you lose your Kindle or want to download a title again."
How do you prevent patrons from browsing the Kindle store and one-click purchasing hundreds of books on the library's account?
Well, it's rather simple. We trust our patrons to know what their limitations are...AND we have a copy of their driver's license. We get the bill from Amazon when titles are added to the Kindle, and our records show who has it out. Anything more than one title gets billed to their account. So far, no problem!
I assume that the text size can be adjusted on the kindle for "large print" book readers. But is there a lot of scrolling involved, to read a page? This could quickly become annoying.
You can change the font size easily, yes. There is NO scrolling as you advance pages, not lines, with the touch of a finger.
Is it legal to lend out a Kindle to Patrons?
I would like to know more about that legal issues too?
If you want more information on the Kindle, send your erequest to requests@spartalibrary.com. Thanks!
